How I got my business back on track
Subject: How I got my business back on track
A while back, I noticed that my business seemed flat. It was generating enough money to pay the bills and provide a decent living — but no growth. It was like being on a treadmill.
So I looked at my email analytics for clues. My newsletter gets good opens and click-throughs. I also get good engagement with my readers. And my offers convert to sales at a healthy rate.
But a closer look revealed that I was losing subscribers. I usually don’t stress over unsubscribes. A reader’s interests can change, and they move on. Unsubscribes are part of the business.
What worried me was that I wasn’t replacing them with fresh subscribers. I knew that if the trend continued, my business could wither like a spring flower.
That was around the time GetResponse introduced new sign-up form types with better behavior for attracting potential subscribers. So I decided to experiment.
I was hesitant to try pop-ups; (some people say they are annoying.) But I found that GetResponse offers lots of ways to control how they appear.
Guess what else I discovered. They work! It turns out that readers need a gentle nudge to take action. And people may say they don’t like pop-up forms, but they do use them.
Further investigation proved that I also wasn’t taking full advantage of social media for finding new subscribers. So I made sure every newsletter included social sharing buttons, so subscribers could help spread my message. And I spent some time on GetResponse integrations for Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn — they’ve got some pretty cool ways to interact on social media.
Immediately, my subscriber list began to grow. And as new subscribers engaged, they became customers.
This growth inspired me to try another list-growth technique — webinars. I’ve always thought of webinars as a tool for closing sales. And it is! But webinars also have list-growth potential.
The technique? Prepare an introductory webinar on a juicy topic that will interest those in your target markets. Schedule it a few weeks in the future. Then start promoting it — that ‘s where the list-building potential comes in.
Encourage friends and followers to sign up for the webinar. But be transparent. Let them know that when they enter their email address, they agree to receive your updates. Reassure them that you’ll never abuse the privilege.
Sounds complex, right? Well it is, but the right software can help. I use GetResponse. It’s affordable for any business and includes all the list-building tools you’ll ever need.

My conversions were lagging until I tried this
Subject: My conversions were lagging until I tried this.
Hello [[Firstname]],
I admit it. I got caught up in the numbers game. For months, I was totally focused on building my email marketing list — more subscribers equal more sales, right?
At least that’s the way it’s supposed to work. But in reality, my sales didn’t keep pace with my list growth. So I got busy learning what it takes to improve conversions.
As it turns out, I was making a rookie mistake. I was using email to deliver a sales pitch to my marketing list, (nothing wrong with that.) But then I was dumping the reader onto my home page — not the smartest thing to do.
And then it hit me. I was doing the same thing with my Adwords campaigns, social media profiles, guest post footers, just about everything. Imagine how frustrating it was to my readers. They would click to get more about something specific and land on a general page.
I discussed it with a friend, and she told about a concept she learned from Brian Clark of Copyblogger. He advocates using email to engage readers and get them interested. Then he takes them “off road” to deliver specific information and close the sale. I love that image — driving your 4X4 off the road to check out an interesting path.
And what does “off road” mean? In the world of online marketing, it means creating a landing page with the exact information the reader needs.
Lucky for me, my GetResponse account includes a landing page builder. With a few clicks I can grab a template and customize it with my text. Then I add images, social sharing icons, and action buttons. And putting it online is a snap.
The result? Not everyone clicks to visit the landing page. (Some readers just move on to something that interests them more.) But the ones who click for more info are ready to buy. And those who don’t buy will hear from me again — with a sweeter offer.
In short, my conversions began to climb, and there’s no end in sight!

How I conquered my “fear of the camera”
Subject: How I conquered my “fear of the camera”
Hi my friend,
I was always jealous of marketers who could look into a web cam and deliver a marketing message — and carry it off with style.
Whenever I tried it, I felt exposed, like a bullfighter facing a bull. His eyes glaring. Just waiting for you to make a mistake. Did I mention that I’m a bit camera-shy?
But then it occurred to me. All the top marketers show their face to the camera, so their followers can have a one-on-one experience with them. And not just the marketing superstars but everyday business people too.
I mentioned my camera shyness to a friend. He said I was too focused on myself. And he was right. I needed to focus on my message — and my audience. So rather than just staring into the camera, I decided to involve others using videoconferencing.
As I began my search for a service, my first reaction was “sticker shock.” But as I tried cheaper alternatives, I found that quality was a problem. The idea of glitches added to my anxiety.
That was around the time my email service provider, GetResponse, introduced a webinar add-on. I found I could upgrade to the Pro package, which includes webinars, for just a few extra bucks per month. So I did it!
For my first experiment, I invited a few of my clients to preview something I’ve been working on. GetResponse Pro enabled me to bring up my email marketing list and choose people to invite — very easy. And my invitees accepted.
And what was my topic? Videoconferencing :-)
So my small group enjoyed checking out the various features. We took turns in front of the camera — up to three of us at a time. Soon we were all involved, taking turns using the presentation screen, whiteboard, chat, and video player.
And we took turns leading the meeting. I noticed that my clients were just as camera-shy as I was. It’s only human. Gradually, we forgot our self-consciousness and just enjoyed ourselves.
Want to know the hardest part? You have to remember to click the “record” button. But I did it! And when I reviewed the recording afterward, I found I didn’t look nearly as awkward as I thought. And as the meeting progressed, I relaxed more and more.
Now I use it for everything. I can:
Invite followers to an online demo to introduce my business.
Deliver a sales talk to a small (or not-so-small) group of prospects.
Train new clients to use products I sell.
Collaborate on marketing projects with online partners.
Offer free webinar recordings to build interest.
Package in-depth webinars into educational courses.
Videoconferencing is now an important part of my marketing and sales funnel. Prospecting is easier and more enjoyable. Online sales presentations help me close more sales. Training classes are easier on everybody’s schedule.
I’m able to do more business in less time, thanks to videoconferencing.

Progress report on my list-building plan
Subject: Progress report on my list-building plan
Hi my friend,
As you’ve probably noticed, I’m on a mission to expand my business. So I’ve been trying every list-building technique in the book. More subscribers, more potential sales.
Know what works best so far? It’s giving visitors lots of creative ways to sign up for my list. So I’ve been exploring the collection of form types included in my GetResponse email marketing account.
For example, on my blog, I can create a scroll form that follows the reader as they scroll down the page — a friendly reminder to sign up for updates. Or place a fixed-bar form at the top of the reader’s browser, so it’s always in view.
And GetResponse includes interesting ways to grab attention — a shake form that … well, it shakes (very gently) to catch the reader’s eye. There’s an exit pop-up form you can set to appear when the reader is leaving (to reduce bounces). And an image pop-up form that allows you to add a colorful photo or image.
One of my strategies is to offer a sign-up incentive. I use a download form that releases the e-document and adds the new subscriber to my marketing list
You can customize these forms. In fact, there’s a Color Magic tool that matches the form colors to the colors on your website or blog automatically. And any form can be coded to add the new subscriber to the campaign of your choice.
Difficult? Nope. After I finish choosing the settings, I copy a snippet of code and paste it into the website HTML — and there it is, looking great.
What else? Oh yes, you can add custom fields to the form. The extra data is useful for segmenting my list, personalizing messages, and providing dynamic content.
As you know, I started using social media to build my list. (If you’re not, it’s time to wake up and smell the coffee.) GetResponse has free tools that integrate sign-up forms with everyday business tools like Facebook, WordPress, PrestaShop, Joomla, WooCommerce, and many more.
To sum up, I couldn’t be happier with the growth of my email list. Once you get forms in place, they keep working night and day, week after week. And if a particular form seems to be under-producing, I can run an A/B test and then tweak it to find out what works best.

How I discovered a great lead-generation tool
Subject: How I discovered a great lead-generation tool
Pre-header: The technology just keeps getting better. Read in browser.
Hi my friend,
When I started my career in online marketing, I wanted to use the best lead-generation technology available. So I diligently combed the market for innovations.
But even after choosing technology, I spent a lot of time reviewing the latest tech news to make sure I wasn’t missing anything.
It burned up a lot of hours — time I could have spent on my core business. And it required a lot of mental bandwidth. (There are only so many things you can focus on in a day.)
A friend noticed my dilemma and pointed me to GetResponse. She told me they had some new tools that would interest me.
She suggested that instead of constantly searching for innovations, I should choose an innovative company and let them do the searching for me.
Believe me, I liked the sound of that. So I checked it out. She was right!
In recent years, GetResponse has come up groundbreaking innovations:
Responsive Email Design – They were first in the industry to introduce a design interface that automatically formats every message to fit the screens of any mobile or desktop device and any operating system.
Landing Pages – And they added a slick, new design interface to their platform that turns out high-converting landing pages in minutes.
Forms – They also integrated forms with landing pages to funnel sign-ups into email campaigns automatically.
Webinars - Their latest innovation is a webinar platform, now an integrated component of their PRO service option — great for demos.
And more – They’ve produced innovations in video email marketing, smartphone apps, QR codes, A/B testing, inbox preview, email timing, global view, perfect timing, and custom fields.
Just as important, they constantly update the long-time favorites:
Autoresponders – GetResponse added sophisticated timing controls and action-triggered emails and then combined it with advanced segmentation for targeted campaigns with the look and feel of one-to-one communication.
Email Creator – Likewise, they reinvented the email design interface, giving users access to hundreds of professionally designed templates, a drag-and-drop editing interface, and point-and-click tools for campaign development.
Email Analytics – And they expanded email analytics to report autoresponder performance and social media sharing. They even dovetailed it with segmentation, so users can click to create segments for finer targeting.
Can you see that I’m a big fan of GetResponse? Check it out, and you’ll discover it’s an all-inclusive platform — the only online lead-generation tool you’ll ever need.

A new sales tool you’ve probably never heard of
Subject: A new sales tool you’ve probably never heard of
Pre-header: Here’s how I found out about it. Read in browser.
Hello, my friend,
Recently, I discovered a unique service and couldn’t wait to tell you about it. It’s a new twist on techniques used by top Internet marketers — one that involves videoconferencing. Here’s how I’ve seen it used in the past.
Some marketers keep it simple. They invite their email subscribers to sign up for a free online event, such as a webinar, training session, or product demo.
Other marketers make it more interesting. They design a “sideways sales letter” — a drip campaign delivering fresh content every few days. One message is text. Another might be video. Another links to a landing page. The eventual CTA is the same — sign-up for their free webinar.
What’s their goal? Getting face-to-face with prospects.
Now, I like to find out what’s new, so I enjoy receiving this type of campaign. And if the drip content is interesting, I sign up for the webinar.
We all know the webinar will end with a sales offer. And I admit — sometimes I buy. No, not every time. But the format gives me all the information I need. Then I can make a decision that’s right for me.
I’ve always wanted to try this approach — but it sounds complicated, right? I’d have to manage my contacts in multiple systems.
And then there’s the expense. When you combine landing pages, email marketing, video conferencing and external tools from various providers, it can cost upwards of $250 a month.
Then I discovered an innovative approach. GetResponse introduced a Pro package for do-it-yourselfers with no programming skills (like me), with all of those systems integrated into one account. And since they designed it for growing small businesses, it’s priced at only $49 per month.
If you’ve ever wanted to combine email, webinars, video email and landing pages to juice-up the flow of your sales funnel, you owe it to yourself to check it out. Here’s a link to the details — no opt-in required.

Secret weapon for adding up to 10,000 subscribers in 90 days!
Subject: Secret weapon for adding up to 10,000 subscribers in 90 days!
Dear Friends,
Have you ever wondered how to boost your email list? It had been my major concern in recent months until I came across the GetResponse List Building Program — a complete email marketing course. It helps me increase my email list every day, which has a direct impact on my sales.
I wouldn’t bother you if this weren’t the most effective list-building course I’ve ever tried. And believe me — I’ve tried many. I did my research to find out whether it was just another online tutorial, and I can truly say that GetResponse is the first email marketing company to provide real know-how about boosting email lists.
The course covers everything you need in order to grow a list by up to 10,000 subscribers in as little as 90 days. The best part is that the program is available free to GetResponse customers, even free-trial accounts that have less than 10,000 subscribers.
You can choose from two program schedules: the 90-day fast-track program or the 180-day standard program. I chose the 90-day course because I am focused on fast results. It takes three hours per day, but it is definitely worth it. If your schedule is too busy, try the 180-day standard program.
Each session consists of a video tutorial, presentation, and article. The lessons are available every 24 hours except the weekends, so you aren’t overloaded with materials.
Here’s the fun part. After successfully completing the course, you receive a GetResponse University Certificate of Performance, which is a great thing to add to your resume.
More details about the course can be found here: http://www.getresponse.com/features/list-building-program.html

Top 10 Reasons to Have an Ezine
Top 10 Reasons to Have an Ezine
Establish yourself as a trusted expert. People search online for information and will look to you, as a subject matter expert, to provide it to them. Every week (or whatever schedule works) provides an opportunity to build on this, while reinforcing your brand.
Build a relationship with the people on your list. It's common knowledge that people like to buy from people they like. By using ezines to connect with readers in their homes, you can develop a relationship of familiarity and trust. Be sure to share a little about yourself or your company in every issue, whether it is an anecdote, event, or employee spotlight.
Keep in touch with prospects and clients. Consideration should be given to eventually developing two ezines: one for prospects and one for clients, as each require different information. This is a great way to notify your readers of weekly specials or upcoming product launches, offer new articles or customer stories, and provide links (or urls) to updated FAQs, blogs and splash pages.
Drive traffic to your website or blog. As noted in #3, remember to call attention to new blog posts or other changes to your website with links directly to those pages. Remind readers of your online newsletter archives. Promote special sales (maybe with discount coupon codes only for subscribers) with a link to the sales page. Use links to turn your ezines and newsletters into 'silent salespersons'– driving traffic to your website and building your lists around the clock.
Build content on your website. Make a habit to adding your ezines and newsletters to your website in an archive area. This serves a several important purposes:
Visitors can read an issue or two to determine if your ezine will be of interest to them, which could help to increase sign-ups and potential sales.
If you optimize your article placements, you will not only make your website 'meatier', but you'll also bring new traffic from the search engines.
Get feedback from your readers. Make it easy for you to stay in touch with prospects and customers and vice versa. Ask them to take action and comment on your articles and offers. Conduct polls and surveys. Start a 'Letters to the Editor' column in your ezine. Feedback allows you to fine tune your messages, target your marketing, and expand your product line. It's also great for relationship building!
Develop an information product. If you deliver your newsletter once a week and include two articles, at the end of a year you'll have 104 well-researched articles in your portfolio! Pick the best-of-the-best and turn them into a bonus ebook for opting-in to your list, submit to download sites to build your list, or sell in PDF-format!
Grow your mailing list. Let your ezine subscribers work for you. Be sure to remind your readers that it's okay to forward your newsletter to anyone they'd like. In addition, it's important to include sign-up instructions for those who received your ezine from viral marketing methods. A simple line titled, 'Get Your Own Copy of XXXXXX', with a link to your squeeze or opt-in page is all it takes!
Gather demographic data. By offering surveys, feedback forms, and niche reports, you'll be able to get valuable information about your prospects and customers. Learn what makes your readers tick, how to better serve them, and how to give them what they want. Make sure they become repeat customers!
Save money! All of the above benefits of publishing an ezine are free or almost free. The small cost of a top-rated ezine publishing system is nothing compared to the cost of brochures, business cards, advertising, direct mail, pay-per-click or other means of promotion. Not only that, but someone has to manage that production! Because your newsletter is delivered online, you can grow your list to be as large as you want without worrying about the expense. Bottom line − it's proven that email marketing is the most cost-effective marketing solution for companies just like yours!
